2022 Ridge Lytton Springs Dry Creek Valley
Wine Spectator 95 points
Like a beast that's been tamed, this red is genteel and polished on the outside but dark and fervent deep down, with expressive flavors of blackberry, briar patch, savory anise and pepper. Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Carignane and Alicante Bouschet. Drink now through 2035. 7,000 cases made. T.F.

Always a surprise due to its unique combination of old vine intensity and polished grace, Ridge’s Lytton Zinfandel bottling is even more so in 2022. The aromas are a stylized yet focused and borderline dramatic mix of blackberry, black peppercorn, briar, licorice root over dark rocky and foresty spice. On the palate, these flavors are enhanced by a grander yet even more polished rendering of all those promised elements, which float through a very long and notably food-worthy finish that never lacks guts but is always silky. A firming tannic backbone guarantees that things will be even finer as time goes on.
