2023 Dumol Pinot Noir Wester Reach, Russian River Valley

2023 is expected to be a great vintage in much of Napa and Sonoma counties and this winery is already bragging about their exceptional 2023 Pinots. The Wester Reach, our first Dumol tasting from the vintage, opens with lovely, vibrantly youthful fruit delivered in chiseled focus. The aromas are a brisk medley of dark cherry, blood orange, black raspberry, dark red rose and mineral scents. The fruit on the palate is dominant, yet there is ample tannin, zest and minerality to support it, and these elements bring a leaner textural feel to otherwise rich body. The mid-palate and lingering flavors are notably long and are a layering of cherry, raspberry, blood orange and red licorice that counterpoints the young wines impressions of piquancy, minerality and tannin. Expect this brilliant Pinot Noir to improve for at minimum three or four more years, although it will be tasty with seared duck breast right now.
